Grandma Sheets' Sugar Cookies

This is my Grandma's recipe -- very mild in coloration even though there are eggs in it. We lived in southern Ohio -- besides being coarse and thick they are now not terribly candy, regardless of the sugar on top. They're the best! (I have to upload up to 9 cups of flour due to humidity wherein I live.)

Ingredients :

2 cups white sugar
1 cup shortening
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon floor nutmeg
3 eggs
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon baking soda
5 cups all-reason flour
